Welcome agent! You are about to be recruited into a secret spy agency called N.E.R.D.S.: National Espionage, Rescue, and Defense Society. All you have to do to is read the book from cover to cover. Easy as pie! Micheal Buckley, a.k.a Agent Beanpole, invites you to join Jackson Jones, a cool kid turned nerd, on this thrilling adventure into the world of spies. When Jackson got braces, he thought his life was over. He lost all of his popularity, couldn't play football anymore, and not even the nerds would hang out with him. But it all changes when he follows a group of nerds (nicknamed "the nerd herd") into a locker where he stumbles upon a secret lab called the playground deep below the school. He meets Benjamin, an artificial inelegance, who gives his braces an upgrade that allow Jackson to use them as giant legs, or as a shield, or as a way to catch cars. Really, he can use them as anything! He finds out that the nerd herd are really spies with special gadgets trained to do what the FBI can't. Together, they must stop an evil genius named Doctor Jigsaw, who's trying to put the continents back together. And what if I told you there was a traitor in their midst? This book is pretty good. It's fast paced and doesn't lag. Even though it sounds pretty heavy, it's actually light and funny. All that set aside, my only problem with it is it's very stereotypical and doesn't really bring a fresh take to the spy genre. Still, this book is a must read. This book is great for kids ages 10-13.
