"If you're interested in happy endings, you're better off reading a different book." This is the first sentence in Lemony Snicket's dark comedy, The Bad Beginning. It follows three orphans, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire, as they are taken into the care of the villain/actor Count Olaf. The longer they stay at his house, the more his evil plot is revealed. Together the Baudelaire orphans must come up with a plan to defeat Olaf before he snatches the enormous fortune their parents left them when they died. This dark yet funny book is entertaining and will keep readers hooked until the end. This is the first of thirteen dismally funny books in the Series of Unfortunate Events. It is also being made into a series for Netflix. This book is miserably fun for kids 10-15, but is on the darker side.
