The Candy Shop War Book Review

What if there was such thing as candy that could give you superpowers? Rock candy that can make you fly, or chocolate balls that make you a master of disguise? In Brandon Mull’s “The Candy Shop War,” four kids discover just that. When the owner if a candy shop let's four kids work there for treats, they discover a world filled with magic candy and fun. But everything isn't as it seems. And their old friends could turn out to be their worst enemies. When I first read this story, I thought it would just be a fun, light whimsical tale about magic candy. I was wrong. What I instead found was a world filled with dark magic, spies, and treasure. This book is a masterpiece with suspense and action reminiscent of The Mysterious Benedict Society books. This is fun, wacky, adventure full of mystery, danger, and magic! My only issue is that it gets pretty slow in the middle, but the original story, engaging characters, settings, and action certainly make up for it!  I loved this book, and it is perfect for kids ages 10-13.
