The Enchanted Wood Book Review

Welcome to The Enchanted Wood, a place where magic abounds! Enid Blyton, the award winning children's author, shares the story of Jo, Bessie, and Fanny (Joe, Beth, and Frannie in some modern versions), who move to the country with their parents. Their new house is right next to the magical Enchanted Wood, where a special tree called the Faraway Tree grows. As Jo, Bessie, and Fanny climb the tree they soon find that people, fairies, imps, and elves all live inside of it. They meet a kind, round faced man named Moon Face, and a pretty fairy named Silky who tell them the top branch of the tree reaches into a different magical land each week. Together with their new friends, the children climb to the top each week to explore a new magical place. They visit Toyland, The North Pole, Roundabout Land, and many more fun and exciting places. But when goofy red goblins take over the Faraway Tree, Jo and the others have to help their friends get it back. This is a very entertaining fantasy story for younger readers, but children over the age of 9 will become bored with it very quickly. This is a great book for parents to read a chapter from at bedtime as it is rarely scary, and aside from the first couple chapters and last few, each chapter is like a little mini story that wraps up by the end of the chapter. This is a wonderful book for kids ages 6-9.
