Where the Mountain Meets the Moon Book Review

To bring her family fortune, a young girl named Minli must travel to the Old Man in the Moon, who knows all and will be able to gain riches. Grace Lin (Year of the Dog, The Ugly Vegetables) tells this grand adventure with the combined aspects of a classic Chinese fairy tale and a modern day novel. Minli meets Dragon the dragon, who helps her on her way. Together, they meet a talking goldfish, defeat greedy baboons, sneak into a heavily guarded kingdom, and climb to the top of the Neverending Mountain where the Old Man of the Moon lives. With short fairy tales mixed into the story, it's very hard to get bored of it. Just like the rest of the book, the full color illustrations are amazing. The only problem the book has is that it feels very cut together at some points. Other than that this is a fun book for all ages, but I think kids 8-11 will get the most out of it.
